CIVITAS - Cleaner and better cities
The CIVITAS Initiative ("City-Vitality-Sustainability", or "Cleaner and Better Transport in Cities") aims to support cities to introduce ambitious transport measures and policies towards sustainable urban mobility.
The goal of CIVITAS is to achieve a significant shift in the modal split towards sustainable transport, an objective reached through encouraging both innovative technology and policy-based strategies.
ELTIS - The European Mobility Portal
Eltis facilitates the exchange of information, knowledge and experiences in the field of urban mobility in Europe. It is aimed at individuals working in the field of transport as well as in related disciplines, including urban and regional development, health, energy and environmental sciences.
Eltis supports the creation of urban transport systems, which use less energy and produce less emissions, while improving the competitiveness of urban areas and the mobility and quality of life of its citizens. Created more than 10 years ago, Eltis is now Europe's main portal on urban mobility. More information.
European Mobility Week
European Mobility Week is an annual campaign on sustainable urban mobility, organised with the political and financial support of the Directorates-General for the Environment and Transport of the European Commission.
The aim of the campaign, which runs from 16 to 22 September every year, is to encourage European local authorities to introduce and promote sustainable transport measures and to invite their citizens to try out alternatives to car use. More information.
European Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI)
Energy, transport, environment, competitiveness, innovation - Europe today is up against extraordinary challenges but also great opportunities.
The EACI has been set up by the European Commission to deliver efficiently high-quality European programmes and initiatives in the areas of energy, the environment, business support, multi-modal transport, communication and finance.
Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE)
The Intelligent Energy – Europe (IEE) programme is giving a boost to clean and sustainable solutions. It supports their use and dissemination and the Europe-wide exchange of related knowledge and know-how.
The projects funded by IEE help to further the three main objectives: promoting energy efficiency and encouraging the rational use of energy sources; increasing the use of new and renewable energy sources as well as encouraging energy diversification; stimulating energy efficiency and renewables in the field of transport. QUEST - Quality management tool for Urban Energy efficient Sustainable Transport
QUEST is a Quality Management tool developed to help small and medium-sized cities to set up and further develop their sustainable mobility policies and actions with the assistance of an external expert – the QUEST Auditor.
QUEST supports European cities in making real progress towards a more sustainable urban transport system, and helps them to find solutions for achieving the desired goals. QUEST is currently looking for new auditors to join the QUEST team of auditors.
ADVANCE – better planning, better cities
ADVANCE aims to improve the urban transport systems in European cities. It supports cities and municipalities on their way towards a more sustainable urban mobility, and assists them to set up and improve the quality of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and mobility policies.
To reach these goals ADVANCE will develop, test and apply an audit scheme to assess the quality of urban mobility planning.
EPOMM - European platform on mobility management
EPOMM is the European platform on Mobility Management, a network of governments in European countries that are engaged in Mobility Management (MM). They are represented by the Ministries that are responsible for MM in their countries.
EPOMM aims to promote and further develop Mobility Management in Europe; and to support active information exchange and learning on Mobility Management between European countries.
ManagEnergy is a technical support initiative of the Intelligent Energy - Europe (IEE) programme of the European Commission that focuses on sustainable energy actions at the local and regional level.
The initiative is primarily targeted at local and regional public authorities, especially Covenant of Mayors signatories, as well as energy agencies and other organisations with a public mission that work on sustainable energy.
Covenant of Mayors
The Covenant of Mayors is the mainstream European movement involving local and regional authorities, voluntarily committing to increase energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources on their territories. By their commitment, Covenant signatories aim to meet and exceed the European Union 20% CO2 reduction objective by 2020.
Being the only movement of its kind mobilising local and regional actors around the fulfilment of EU objectives, the Covenant of Mayors is portrayed by European institutions as an exceptional model of multi-level governance.
TRIP - research and innovation portal
The Transport Research & Innovation Portal presents an overview of research activities at European and national level. It offers a summary of transport research organisations in the European Research Area countries; and detailed information on national, European and international programmes and projects respectively.. The series of our Policy Brochures and Thematic Research Summaries provide a broader overview of the research conducted at European level and its input into the policy-making process.
